This lesson contains 33 nouns and 5 verbs.
Third-declension nouns make the second dictionary form earn its place. Dux becomes ducis, and iter becomes itineris: the stem cannot always be recovered by trimming the nominative. Pair lēx with lēgis and lūx with lūcis slowly, since a quick glance can turn law into light. People and family members form one useful group; terrain and an army on the move form another. Corpus, flūmen and vulnus also remind you that this declension includes neuters. Challenge A returns to this list in weeks 5–7 while comparing noun patterns and preparing for later declensions. B uses weeks 3–4 for similar comparisons; I includes the list in week 1 review. Work through a few headword–genitive pairs aloud rather than racing the whole page. Before Lesson 4, find a third-declension stem from its genitive and keep that task separate from naming gender.
Forms in this lesson: 3rd-declension nouns (30), 4th-conjugation verbs (2), irregular verbs (2), 2nd-declension nouns (2), 3rd-conjugation verbs (1), 1st-declension nouns (1).
In the Classical Conversations schedule, this lesson's vocabulary is assigned in Challenge A, weeks 5, 6 and 7, Challenge B, weeks 3 and 4 and Challenge I, week 1.
Use the genitive ducis and remove -is to find duc-. The nominative alone does not show the full stem clearly.
Recall each with its genitive and meaning: lēx, lēgis is law; lūx, lūcis is light. Test the whole pair rather than the first letter.
